Question regarding the new forums

I like the look of them, and I'm keen to have a play around, but......

Is there a setting to disable my real name from being transmitted unencrypted? Or even to disable it being accessed/shown at all by the software? If not will this be fixed before these forums are closed to make way for the new ones?

As Pahanda indicated, Healingsara, your name is only displayed to you. You are otherwise shown as the Avatar you select when posting. :)

Which is why I don't use my real name for such sites.

Thanks for your replies, but this wasn't meant to be a debate on the safety or not of doing this. As I understand that the new forums are effectively in public beta testing I'm still curious as to whether there are plans to give us control over this facet.

I couldn't say, Healingsara, as those of us who moderate the CS Forum are not Developers or Web Designers nor are we liaisons with them. You could try posting in the General Discussion forum, one of our Community Managers, who are liaisons with Dev, may see your post and be able to provide you with an answer. Unfortunately the best location to request such a change would be the Website Feature Suggestions forum as Pahanda suggested.

So I'm guessing that you don't do online banking, and online bill paying, right?

I think the concern, Alvraen, is that the new forums aren't encrypted or an https, and the OP feels that the name being displayed, even if it is only on the users side is not secure.

Good luck, Healingsara, I'm sorry I could not be of direct assistance regarding your concerns.
