Account locked?

I was locked out of my account recently and I have no idea why. I got an email that said I was abusing the in-game chat systems by posting third-party links and spamming. Thing is, I only ever use the chat to speak with one of my friends. I did the whole recover account form, changed my password as prompted, and got a message when I tried to log in again that said they detected a change in my access pattern and needed me to verify my identity via email. I am now thoroughly confused and have no idea what to do, because to I best of my knowledge I haven't done anything but play the game.

Also, I will freely admit to being a complete and utter newb at WoW, so if this is a simple thing to fix, please feel free to slap me upside the face. Either way, I'd like to know what happened and if it's possible to avoid it in the future. If not, well, it would really suck to be banned for something I have no knowledge of doing.

The account was reported as compromise, Larahariel.

You will receive an e-mail shortly regarding account security and instructions on how to recover your account.

Below are some of the things covered in the e-mail. You may want to try going over some of these will you wait.

==============================================================
  • Computer security, should be a top priority. If your computer is infected with a keylogger, your account information can get out regardless of how creative your password is. Run multiple virus scans and remember that there isn't a single anti virus program that will catch every single virus out there.

  • After securing your computer, change the password associated to your battle.net account and personal e-mail account. Make sure your battle.net password is completely different than your e-mail password.
    Secure Your Email Address:http://us.blizzard.com/support/article/30806

  • Once you are comfortable, log back in to the game and open an in game support ticket.
  • Contact In-Game Support to Report Any Character, Item, or Currency Losses:http://us.blizzard.com/support/article/30807
It is important that you continue checking your system for additional malware to prevent future compromises.

In addition to computer security, you may wish to look into obtaining a Blizzard authenticator for your account. The blizzard authenticator is designed to prevent unauthorized access to your account and is ultimately the best way to protect your account.
