Hello All,

Posting from a friends account. My account was recently compromised and I am doing the new automated account recovery thing from the battle.net site.

I typed in my info and it says the account recovery process is underway. It is also saying that a password reset email has been sent.

I have tried doing the old "forgot your password" thing but it seems that the email that was associated with the account has been changed? The battle.net account recovery is saying it has sent a password reset email.. so is it sending it to the email I typed in during the first part of the recovery or is it sending it do the current registered email?

B/c if it is sending it to the current email I don't see how that helps me recover my account since all it is doing is sending the password reset email to the person who has stolen my account.

Plz help

Well, first, I'll need to know a character/realm on the account in question. And you are correct, if they changed the email that does add a layer of complexity to this.

Secondly, please don't use another's account - even to post here on the forums. If your system has malware you may have just compromised their account as well.

One of the main things at this point is determining how they got hold of your password and ID. Unless that is found, the chances of this repeating are VERY high. Could be malware on your system, a compromised email, perhaps you responded to a phish or use the same password in other places - like other games. Literally thousands of ways these thieves trick, lie, steal and scam a player's information, but it's important to be certain you are secure going forward.

This sticky may be useful.

You may also want to look into getting an authenticator for your account. It's no substitute for good security habits, but it will help keep them out of your WoW account.
