Who gets archaeology

I know it won't be until cataclysm is released, but I'm still a relatively low level character so I won't be buying cataclysm just yet. Will I be able to study archaeology, or do I need to purchase all of the expansions first?

Archaeology is a secondary profession similar to cooking, fishing and first aid.
