I just received a whisper from a GM saying I needed to go to a specific site and enter my info or my account was going to be closed for good.

What is the deal with that?

I tried to ask the GM a question but they no longer existed.

As others have mentioned, Geococcyx. The whisper you received was more than likely a phishing attempt.

For future reference, an actual Blizz GM will have a tiny Blizzard logo next to their name and their chat will always open a new chat box.
I received an in-game whisper from someone claiming to be a GM.
