This actually isn't an issue I've seen a lot of reports on specifically, and could be a few things.

Have you first - tried a full reset of your UI?
Q u o t e:

To do a full reset UI, you will want to save your addons in another spot if you wish to preserve them.

Then rename/delete or move your WTF, Cache and Interface folders while WoW is shutdown. Reboot your system.

Note, if you are running Vista make sure your permissions are set so it does not undo your changes.

More detailed instructions for different operating systems, including Macs are here.

It doesn't sound like this is an issue involving the cogwheel, but portals do use them. That's a seperate issue on it's own, but I don't think you'd actually start loading if that were the case.

I'd try the reset UI first - and without re-adding ANY addons back in.

Didnt work, says i have to download a 9gig patch now new release?

The way downloads work has changed a bit. If it says you need to download a patch, while odd after just a simple reset UI, I'd see if it comes down.

If you haven't fully downloaded yet play, there could be things that don't work optimally. That's the difference in the old download the entire thing and play - and the new streaming, download the most important bits, play early - but some things may not be optimal.

I suppose if parts you needed weren't yet downloaded and you tried to port, that might cause what you were describing, but that's only theoretical.

I'd finish downloading whatever it says you need, then try again.

If you are certain that your reset UI was successful (Vista can be a bit sneaky and save things you tell it to delete and use them) and you know you have all the content downloaded, I'd proceed to the next step and consult tech about this. Could be other issues, drivers, etc.

Those are our first two troubleshooting steps and help in a great many cases, but not all.

I wish I could provide further assistance.
