I'd contact your credit card company as soon as possible, Ninjawick.
If the transaction is not successful, those would be pending charges. Those are very common on any internet transaction and they do reduce your available credit line, but the money doesn't actually go anywhere unless a finalized charge comes through to meet up. I take it you attempted this several times?
How long those funds are held is entirely up to your credit card company. Some only freeze the funds for a short time, others it's longer, but it's their rules that govern that timeframe.
