"You can please some of the people some of the time, and even all the people some of the time. But you can't please all of the people, all of the time."

AND

"If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it" / "Leave well enough alone."

That's all I want to say to Blizzard. Instead of endlessly buffing this and nerfing that, when you find a good balance, LEAVE IT ALONE.

Yes I'm posting this because my main a ret paladin (inb4 lolret, fotm) seems to be dead for the forseeable future. But not just for myself, bc I see that many other classes have been ruined by this patch, so it seems.

This is my one wish, unless Blizz wants to kill this game.

It's fine to add things for flavor, but basics shouldn't be drastically changed. That's all. (Look at classic games like chess or sports, the rules dont change yet people continue to play them.)

I guess you can argue that shaking things up is "fun". Well it can be, if its an improvement. But change for the sake of change, is not fun to me.

It's a bit of a misnomer to suggest we changed classes just for the sake of it. The classes would have changed no matter what, given that we have a new expansion on the horizon. We simply felt that continuing with the same practice of deepening the talent trees in correspondence with new character levels was impractical. It may feel a little weird adjusting to the new setup, particularly since our focus with the new system is performance at level 85. That said, you would have experienced a good deal of change regardless of whether or not we decided to just make the talent trees deeper.

When a new expansion is released and the level cap is extended, class changes are inevitable. We're adjusting for an extension of the game and do not feel an expansion would feel as meaningful if we kept all classes the same and just inflated the numbers from 80-85. I'm confident this would not have been pleasing to you. Our methods will probably be a lot more apparent to you once Cataclysm is released.

We know classes aren't perfectly balanced right now, but implementing patch 4.0.1 was a very necessary and helpful step toward making Cataclysm a better expansion. As far as the here and now is concerned, I just want to make sure you're keeping up with Ghostcrawler's updates here: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=27187856197&sid=1&pageNo=1

I fail to see how the expansion is going to make this new talents system any better. While Cata may bring new zones and stuff, the talents won't change, they'll remain as they are.

So how are they going to be more agreeable to players who hate them and judging from the waves of hate posts there are many players pretty angry right now.

A good size portion of the anger is directed at the thought of having to stay on a tree for 31 of 41 points.

You misunderstand what I wrote, which was presented quite clearly. I'd clarify if I wasn't so confident you'd again extrapolate whatever you want out of my text in order to justify another point of contention.

Wrong. I would have been pleased as punch if that was all you did.

In theory it may sound great to you, though I was speaking specifically to the original poster. In practice it doesn't translate well. We don't just scale the numbers up for another 5 levels, do nothing to the talent trees other than allowing players to fill them with five more points, and then expect to achieve balance.

Please remove the other levels(1-84) if you continue to only build the game around one level(85).

Not only did I not say the other 84 levels are ignored -- we've gone to great lengths to improve the aspects of leveling each class in Cataclysm by the way -- but what you claim to be my argument wasn't even implied.

I'll be honest, it's a little difficult to have a reasonable to discussion about patch concerns when people jump into the thread with one-liners as clever as they are deceptive and false. You can't change the topic of discussion by inserting meaning into my words that isn't there.

Well, I like your waxing philosophical. I'll just say that yes, there are changes to culture over time, some large some small (large ones being revolutions and whatnot). I'd like to think that changes are for the better, and hopefully a majority are.

And the same applies to this game, I'd hope that it evolves ever so slowly, and sometimes rapidly, into a polished work.

I think we can agree here. :)
