Q u o t e:
Are there still rules against offensive language in trade chat? I know you used to be able to report bad language or racially offensive words. It seems people are more and more blatant about it.
Absolutely, Claus, and you are correct it does seem to be more prevalent than it used to. Much is due to the belief that nothing is done or that "if you don't like it use the filter".
Neither is true. Our policies cover both clear and masked language so though the filter is useful for added protection for parents and others who do not care for such language it is not license to use that type of language. Report it, we will investigate the report and take appropriate actions.
I've found a surprising number of people yell out "Reported" or say they are going to report and never do. This gives a false impression that the person was investigated and nothing happened. The best way to reduce the incidents of this is to keep reporting, even if you believe someone else is going to submit a petition themselves, do it anyway.
Q u o t e:
My understanding is that, if you actually go to the trouble of putting in a ticket over offensive behaviour, that carries more of a penalty to the offender than if you just /reportspam. I saw a Blue mention something along those lines.
To clarify, Faline, the Report Spam reporting system should only be used to report spam as well as other types of illicit advertisement (powerleveling/gold sales, etc...). Reports of harassment made with this reporting method may not be properly processed and could be missed entirely. Though a bit more time consuming please submit a petition for harassment issues, even if we are unable to investigate the matter the same day we will review logs and take appropriate actions.
Q u o t e:
The GMs who looked in to this after my friends got tired of it looked at chat logs and found that all the tickets the other people made were lies, found that chatlogs were 'forged' by their friends on their own accounts, etc. etc.
I'm sorry, Rosefist, I'm having trouble with your statements. A Game Master would not have provided information regarding an investigation, they wouldn't have told your friend to simply ignore them and move on.
If someone reports an incident that didn't happen our logs would confirm that. We only take action based off of verified information and it is impossible for someone to forge logs.
We do advice you to not continue a conversation with someone you claim is harassing you. If you believe someone has violated our Terms of Use it is best to report it via an in-game petition and then place that player on ignore.
I'm afraid this subject is going into areas that would be inappropriate for these forums so I'll be locking this thread. Thank you very much for your constructive participation in this discussion.
