Hallows End Event Issues

Update: Though the overall issue with the cogwheel is being looked into we have a work around that should prevent players from freezing/disconnecting. The following quote is from a post in the Bug Report forum.

Huzzah for ingenuity!

Q u o t e:

Hey Guys,

There's tons of threads posted and lots of promising solutions. I have one that I've been testing for three days and have not had as much as lag spike when mousing over cogs. This works if you're willing to disable tooltips when you are anywhere a cog icon might show up.

You will need to create two macros, for "turn off tooltips" and "turn on tooltips".

Turn Off Tooltips

/script GameTooltip.Temphide = function() GameTooltip:Hide() end; GameTooltip:SetScript("OnShow", GameTooltip.Temphide);

Turn On Tooltips

/script GameTooltip:SetScript("OnShow", GameTooltip.Show);

This should get you through until the official fix comes down from Blizzard. Happy hunting!

Good Morning Folks!

So, there are reported issues with the Hallows End Boss. Some are a misunderstanding in how the new system works with points, others are an issue related to the cog-wheel issue that's been previously observed in BGs.

Unable to load in, or WoW exiting upon arrival in the instance.

This could be a number of things, many cases may be related to the cog-wheel issue that is already known.

I'd recommend everyone reload their UI, just in case. If it's the cog-wheel issue - avoiding mousing over is one way to avoid it happening. Our developers are still looking into that issue.

To do a full and proper reset UI....

Q u o t e:
To do a full reset UI, you will want to save your addons in another spot if you wish to preserve them.

Then rename/delete or move your WTF, Cache and Interface folders while WoW is shutdown. Reboot your system.

Note, if you are running Vista make sure your permissions are set so it does not undo your changes.

More detailed instructions for different operating systems, including Macs are here.

Character already exists

This error can be encountered when trying to log back in. This means that character is still online and has not yet auto-logged. One thing to try is logging into another character on that realm - that will often force the first one offline. This condition also usually resolves itself within 5ish minutes or so on it's own. If logging into another character does not seem to free the first, or it doesn't log out on it's own, you will want to submit a petition for further Game Master assistance.

Empty Bags

It is possible since the conversion from badges to points to receive an empty bag. It's also possible what would have been in that bag is unique and you already have the item - so it's not going to show. Your points should be awarded when you open the container.

*NEW* Sinister Calling Achievement (10/20/10)

We have received reports of players experiencing issues pertaining to the Sinister Calling Achievement.

In order to have this issue investigated, we are asking players to open an in game petition at this time. If this procedure changes, we will update the thread accordingly.

Q u o t e:
I read somewhere that disabling the hardware cursor could fix the issue with the cogwheel. Of course, when I posted in the stickied thread about it in the Bug Reports forum, it was at like the last page, so I don't think anyone saw it. I saw someone else post a different thread about it, so I thought I'd spread the word.

I've not personally heard that - but it's certainly worth a try.

If anyone could report back with how this works out if they'd like to try it, would be much appreciated.

This WILL work for you until a fix goes out:

Thank you, Mortalitaas, I also added that information to the first post.

So Just to clarify, does every bag contain something?

Yes and No. The bags originally contained Emblems plus the chance at one of the other drops. Now that emblems have been converted to Justice points those are what you receive when you open the bag, otherwise the bag has no additional loot or you already have the item that it had contained.

The Headless Horseman event in Razor Hill is only happening every 60 minutes instead of every 15 now.

You can talk to the matron to start that any time.

I don't know what they were doing, but if Patch 4.0 causes this many errors with such simple things, can you really say it is ready?

A 50% disconnect chance when mousing over -any- object in an instance that has the cogwheel icon? And as for the Halloween bags, which are called LOOT-FILLED Pumpkins... I don't see how they can consistently "Contain No Loot." The excuse of Frost badges is weak, at best. If they planned for 4.0 to drop before Hallow's End and be ready, they would have known this would happen.

Here is the hope for an extension on the event, or -something- to make up for how unplayable it is, along with most of the rest of 4.0.1.

Check the very first post in this thread for a workaround for the disconnecting 'cogwheel' issue, Khaixur.

Bags are also addressed in that post.

Q u o t e:

Actually, just talking to the matron doesn't start the event. You have to drop the quest "Let the Fires Come!" and then talk to her and re-accept the quest. That will start the event.

That's a pre-quest, yes - but only needs to be done once in the lifetime of a character.

The event should be starting far more often, Qutea, if it is not please submit a petition. Include the area that you are reporting at that the Stop the Fires" event hasn't gone off for X long.

If any particular Matron seems to not want to kick off the event, do let us know.

You do know that the Innkeep hourly treat bags contain both the pet and the helm - right? That would probably be a better chance than the once a day quest, but we'll be able to look into that as well.

The matrons have gone on a terribly well deserved coffee break.

As soon as they return, they should be ready to call him again :)
