Actually you can talk to other players. You can use /say and you can respond to players if they whisper you. The trial is meant to allow you to get a feel for the game and to avoid the abuses that can happen on trial accounts they have specific restrictions in place.

How did you add the account, Rousseau? Did you merge it into your Battle.net account because the trial account you are currently posting on does not have any other accounts attached to it.
If you created a different Battle.net account and merged your old World of Warcraft to that one you'll need to use that E-mail address to log into the game.

If you haven't merged your old account yet, you'll want to log into your Battle.net account management page and click on the Manage Games tab and select "Merge a World of Warcraft account".
