Downloader getting stuck at initializing.

I have read a few of these tech fixes but none seem to apply to me. I am not running security software nor am I running with a firewall. I finished the 4 GB+ patch, then spent 2 hours waiting for the Blizzard Updater to reach 100%. All of this took about 8 hours.

Now when I launched the game after everything was complete, I get the launcher now trying to download another 1.4 GB patch. After about 5 more hours the new Cata Launcher had downloaded around 40% of this 1.4 GB and was well into the "available" section when it completely halted and went into "Not Responding" mode.

So I close the launcher since it was not responding I had to use the task manager. Now when I open the launcher it just gets stuck on "initializing, please wait...".

I have restarted my computer and am out of solutions at this point.

Hello Gseed,

I would start off with a Selective Startup, and see if that helps or makes a difference:

Hit the Windows Key + R, and type:

msconfig

Hit Enter or OK.

In the General tab:

1. Choose Selective Startup
2. Disable (uncheck) Load Startup Items
3. Click OK and Reboot

Then let's take a look at your computer with the Direct X Diagnostic Tool (dxdiag):
  • Hit the Windows key + R
  • Type in:

    dxdiag

  • Hit Enter or OK

Click on the Save All Information button at the bottom, and Save a DxDiag text file.
Copy and paste everything up to the "DirectX Components" section in XP, and up to the "DirectShow Filters" section in Vista or 7. You don't have to include the "DirectX Components" or DirectShow Filters" section.

Gseed, I'm sorry, could post everything above those sections? Also be sure to try a Selective Startup.
