Paid Character Transfer/Faction Change Issues

Earlier today, I completed a character transfer transaction for one of my characters, and have been keeping an eye on the "Pending Transaction" tab for about two hours since then.

I just checked it again about 10 minutes ago, and got this error message:

"We're sorry. The Paid Character Transfer service is currently unavailable. Please check back at a later time."

Thinking that the service was down anyway, I attempted to log on the character I wished to transfer and received a message stating that I could not log on that character until the process that I initiated was completed.

I'm concerned for the status of my character and the money spent to purchase the transfer. I currently cannot play the game until the character transfer has went through successfully.

Have I done something wrong? Or is just waiting a while the best thing to do at this point?

Q u o t e:
Thank you so much. Can you also look into the billing for mine. It was charged 2 times on my visa :(

I'm afraid I can't assist directly with Billing issues - as a Customer Service Forum Representative, I'm mostly here to provide advice and moderate these forums.

Odds are though that it sounds like multiple requests went through when submitting. If you are submitting a paid transfer request of any kind, make sure you only submit it once, even if you receive an error. The multiple charges you are seeing are the automated requests to "ping" your bank to make sure a payment can be made. These "pings" and multiple requests should normally clear out and be refunded by your bank if the transaction never goes through (which, as a duplicate, you shouldn't receive more than one transfer).

As for the issue at hand, I have not yet received more information. Still waiting to hear back, please hang tight and thanks for your patience! <3

Yss, I had to quote you. It made me giggle. <3

As for the matter at hand, I have a tiny bit of news. They're poking a few buttons on our end, if this resolves the issue, I'll be sure to keep you all informed. Again, I am unable to provide an ETA at this time.

Hello once again everyone –

The issue concerning Paid Character Transfers and Faction Changes are still being looked into. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide an ETA as to when these services will be back up and running.

Several threads have mentioned concerns over being charged for the service and the character is locked and has not transferred as intended. While it may appear as though you have been billed (i.e. funds removed from the available balance) this is not the case. You all are experiencing what is called "funds held", "pending transactions", or "authorizations only".

You will only see the funds removed from your account completely when the attempted transaction completes. If the service is canceled, we will not collect those funds. Keep in mind it may take several days for the funds to be reverted back into your available balance. You may wish to check with your financial institution concerning their policies on "funds held".

I hope this helps to clear up any confusion.

Q u o t e:

yeah i cancelled it
but then thought it was like a stuff up
so i went back to try again
and its saying my card number is wrong i did it like 50billion times. does that meen the card has no money in it or what? cause the number is right
let me rephrase that actually, does that meen its still in process of being cancelled or whats the go?

The Faction Change was cancelled and the character should be playable at this time.

You may wish to refrain from attempting the Faction Change until the issue is resolved, however this is completely at your discretion.

Q u o t e:
up, my toons locked =(

Are you able to access the Paid Character Transfer Transactions Page at all, Lyern?

https://www.worldofwarcraft.com/account/character-transfer-status.html

If so, see if you have the ability to cancel the transaction. Doing so will unlock the character allowing you to play.

Q u o t e:
Stilll nothing :(

Are you able to access the Faction Change Transactions Page, Reposition?

https://www.worldofwarcraft.com/account/faction-change-transactions.html.

If you can access this page, try cancelling the Faction Change. As I mentioned to Lyern, cancelling the service will unlock the character.

Hello everyone –

I know you all have been anxiously waiting for an update.

We believe we may have found what is causing the delay in the Paid Character Transfer and Faction Change services; however we still do not have an ETA as to when the services will be fully functional.

Thank you for your continued patience.

"MORE INFO". You haven't told us ANY information, so... Your point is invalid.

Then allow me to add to what has been previously posted.

Our tech teams believe they may have found the source of the issue, and are currently attempting multiple fixes. If you are seeing the page come up and down, that's not because it's the system faltering, that is because there is work being done troubleshooting and trying a few different things.

It's really not much more info than has already been provided by either Harlsoco or myself, but there you have it. If I hear word that they are functioning again, I will let you all know.

No, I understand its frustrating when there is limited information available - I'm rather in the same boat, simply waiting for updates to pass on to you guys.

I know what it's like, but if I were to post updates too frequently, I think you might accuse me of copy-pasting as I simply don't have new information to provide.

Q u o t e:

So what is going to be done for us? Since I have paid for the transfer, had the funds withdrawn from my account and my character is not playable?

I would start at doing the transfer and not charging for it. With additional services thrown in as time goes on. I know what I would truly prefer but the forum has some rules against being to honest.

As Harlsoco mentioned earlier, the funds you see "withdrawn" are currently being held by your financial institution for payment pending. We will not claim any funds until the transaction has successfully completed.

Also keep in mind that all paid services are subject take up to five days to complete. Situations such as this can be involved, as can be a backlog of character transfer requests. While requests can complete in a shorter period of time as others have quoted (an hour or two), this is not always the case.

Refer to our Support Article on Paid Character Transfers for more information:

Q u o t e:
I signed a character up for a realm transfer, but it's still on the old realm and I can't play with this character anymore. What's going on?

Character transfers may take up to 5 days to process. You won't be able to play the characters you signed up for a transfer during that time, so you may want to spread out your transfers so that not all your characters are locked at the same time. Once you've completed the transfer process as described above, your characters will appear on the destination realm, ready to continue your adventure.

I've submitted requests on information regarding the following:

-Paid Faction Changes and Paid Character Transfers appear to share the same cool-down
-Paid Character/Faction Changes not completing properly
-Paid Faction Changes providing the error 'This Character is still in a guild' after the character has left the guild.

I am awaiting further information at this time, but all of these have been made aware to those capable of investigating the cause of these issues. I'll be creating a sticky shortly for this discussion, and closing down this thread, so please bear with me while I get that set up! Thanks.

Q u o t e:
Renaming using a faction change is not removing the flag for a character to be renamed that results from a server transfer, potentially forcing people into names they do not want.

Âuctioneer, this is a known issue that's been around for quite some time, which is caused if you complete these services back to back without logging in. You will want to contact a Game Master for additional assistance.
