Canceling buffs is now protected --- WHY?

It's important to note that we institute changes to stop the exploitation of the system all the time. Addon authors are always on top of making adjustments as needed.

Addons can still have buff modes that sort, but not dismiss. Addons can also create specific placeholders for those buffs that people feel they need to dismiss.

All of this is feasible now. If you are not seeing this in your favorite buff addon then you should try contacting the author.
