Receiving gold from strangers.

Not sure if this is the right forum or not, but I have a serious question about people giving gold away. I rolled this toon to try out the ‘new’ startup stuff and got up to about level 8 when someone pops open a trade window and puts 100g in it then hits the trade button. Since I recently rolled on this new [to me] server to hook up with friends, I’m not rolling in money as of yet. While 100g may not be much to the majority of people that have been around a while, it is a reasonably large amount for someone in my situation (or more so if it were a new player).

My concern is this, what happens to my account if it turns out some hacker was actually running the account at that time and the gold I received turns out to be the proceeds of someone being hacked? Or what happens if some gold seller has mistaken me for their ‘client’ and gave me the money by accident?

If the gold was received from a compromised account, Shikota, then the money would simply be reclaimed during the investigation process. Unless there is evidence of wrong doing you wouldn't be held accountable.

It is unlikely that you intercepted a gold sale, as 100 gold is really not in the realm of what would likely be purchased. It was more likely someone trying to help out of a new character. :)
