Blizzard Post
Greetings folks,

With the implementation of Patch 4.0.1 we have come across several outstanding issues that are either under investigation or simply causing a bit of confusion. In order to provide a centralized location to provide information and updates we have created this thread.

Master Riding

There has been some confusion regarding the purchase of this skill that we'd like to clear up.

If you had a 310% flying mount learned before 4.0.1 went in you should have automatically been granted this skill. Otherwise, if you wish to fly at 310% speed you'll need to learn Master Riding on top of Artisan Riding.

You have not lost your original flight training, both Artisan and Master Riding cost 5000 gold.

All mounts that previously allowed you to fly at 310% have been converted to standard flying mounts, it is your skill that determines your flight speed.

Note: There is currently not an associated achievement with the Master Riding skill.

Missing Enchantments

Though we do not currently have any updates regarding this matter we are aware of the reported missing enchantments.

We will provide what updates we can when they become available.

Update: 10/13
Q u o t e:

Since the release of patch 4.0.1 yesterday, we’ve received reports from players that a few of their item enchantments are now missing. After further investigation into the cause and potential solutions, we’ve come to the unfortunate conclusion that we will not be able to restore these enchantments.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, but we will not be able to replace or otherwise reimburse players for their lost enchantments.

Insect Swarm

There is currently an issue with some Druids where your spellbook directs you to visit a trainer to learn the spell. Unfortunately once you get there the trainer indicates that you already know it.

Update: 10/12/10

This issue has been hotfixed.

Guild Issues with Authenticator

This feature seems to be a little confusing so we wanted to sure everyone was fully aware of the implementation.

In order to enable the Authenticator option for a particular rank, that rank must be empty.

Additionally, in order to promote or invite a member to a rank that requires an Authenticator that member must had the Authenticator attached to their account for 72 hours. This timer starts once the player has logged into the game after attaching the authenticator to their account.

Due to the new implementation of this feature that timer starts today. You should be able to promote to an Authenticator enabled rank by Friday at the earliest. We apologize for what confusion this may have caused.

Warlock Pets Renamed

We are aware that most Warlock pets received rename after implementation of the patch. We are currently inquiring and seeking further clarification as to if this is an intended change or a not.

We will provide what information we can as soon as it becomes available.

Update 10/13:
Q u o t e:

…the ritual came to a close and a demon of untold power (but limited stature) was pulled through the void, kicking and biting and gnashing its teeth, forcibly bound to the mortal world. The warlock, a quizzical expression on his face, regarded his familiar, who was in fact now quite unfamiliar, and inquired, “Who in the hell are you?”

Since the release of 4.0.1, more than a few warlocks have noticed that their pets are in fact no longer their familiar demonic servants, and instead appear to be new entities with different names. We’ve been able to pinpoint the cause of the issue, which should be resolved by tomorrow for any warlocks that log in for the first time from then on. We’ve also been able to determine that we will be able to restore any renamed warlock pets to their original pre-4.0.1 names during next week’s scheduled maintenance.

For those of you who like your new pet names, we’re working on a feature for a future patch that will allow you to refresh your summons and essentially generate a random pet name without having to level a new warlock.

Missing Characters

We are aware of an issue where some characters are not showing up on the Character Selection screen.

First and foremost know that these characters are not gone, they are simply not being displayed for you. This matter should be addressed with the off-peak restarts scheduled for this morning.

Update 10/14 5:00AM: Please check again after this morning rolling restarts

Update

It appears the restart did not resolve the issue as some characters are still not being displayed. This remains under investigation, we will provide an update as soon as one becomes available.

Item Durability Standardization

There has been some confusion over a change implemented with 4.0.1. In this patch, items that were not previously at 100/100 durability were all set to that maximum. In many cases this meant that if the item previously had, for example, a 60/60 durability it would now be at 60/100.

You did not actually lose durability in these cases, you gained it. In order to reach the new limit of 100/100 you will need to repair your gear but you should not have otherwise lost durability.

The Game Master department will be unable to provide repair cost or other compensation for this change.

Removed From BG

We have received reports in which players are being automatically removed from battlegrounds resulting in a deserter buff.

We are currently looking into this issue and will provide additional information as it becomes available to us.

Unable to use Professions (Including "Requires Herbalism/Mining")

We have been receiving reports where players retain abilities related to Mining and Herbalism (such as Toughness, Smelting, and Lifeblood), but are unable to use those abilities to gather resources. In addition, players who pick up the Skinning ability may still have Master of Anatomy, but lose their ability to skin.

Crafting professions appear to also be experiencing this issue, including Enchanting which may show Disenchanting as still available, though the player is unable to enchant items.

In some cases, it may be possible to restore a profession by re-purchasing only the Journeyman version of the skill. This is, unfortunately, not a universal fix, but may serve as a temporary work around in some cases.

This is a known issue being investigated by our Quality Assurance team, and we will provide an update as soon as possible.

Nameplates - Missing

There have been many reports of missing or inconsistent nameplates for both Friendly and Enemy characters and NPC's. As there have been some changes to the nameplate options you'll first want to make sure you have the appropriate options checked before trying additional troubleshooting steps.

Though the V, Shift-V and CTRL-V keys by default should still show the respective Name Plates, if they are not enabled in your Interface options they will not show up.

To do this open up your Options menu (Esc key by default) click on Interface button then Names. Make sure the appropriate boxes you want are checked.

Some players seem to be getting some nameplates but others disappear. Though this matter is still under investigation, the following console command has been successful resolving this for many.

/console bloattest 1

"Cogwheel" causing disconnects or freezes in Instances and Battlegrounds

Update - 10/26/10

This issue should have been resolved with the patch that went live today.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Workaround:
Though we do not currently have an estimate on when a permanent resolution can be implemented we do have a possible workaround that players can try that has been successful for some. If you disable your tooltips may prevent the freezes/disconnects the Cogwheel is currently causing.
Turn Off Tooltips
/script GameTooltip.Temphide = function() GameTooltip:Hide() end; GameTooltip:SetScript("OnShow", GameTooltip.Temphide);
Turn On Tooltips
/script GameTooltip:SetScript("OnShow", GameTooltip.Show);
We will provide what updates we can as soon as they become available.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

There have been many reports of players who experience their game either freezing or disconnecting entirely when interacting with objects that provide a "cogwheel" prompt. This can include such items as the Warlock soul well, Mage portals, feasts, or battleground objectives such as flags (both node and those that are able to be carried).

Our QA team is aware of this issue and investigating. However, we do not have an ETA on a resolution. Hang tight, and keep an eye here for future updates!

Unable to Inspect other Players

We have been receiving reports that players are unable to inspect other players' characters. Some have reported success by completing a Reset UI, as detailed below:

Reset UI

You may also be able to bring the option back by exiting World of Warcraft and restarting the client.

These options do not always resolve the issue. This is a known issue and our staff is working on a permanent fix at this time.
