A small scare today

I have had a bit of a scare today involing my account. It seemed that i could no longer log on anything (battle.net, game, forums so on). I tried the password recory and account recory methods but it required my email and it would say that it's not valid, so I immediately went on my email and noticed two emails. One said my account had been suspended for 3 hours for spamming and gold selling ads and claimed that my password was reset.

I did not follow the links. The other one which seemed alot more legit also said my password was reset and looked very clean and laid out well. After some debating i clicked the link. It brought me to a password reset page and i did so. It seems that this was legit because i can log on again with no issues. I do however, have a question that i'd like answered.

The question here is why was my pasword reset for no reason, why did i get an email saying my password was reset and my account suspended for gold selling ads and spamming when i've not done so. I have just re subbed to the game and haven't played that much yet because i've been fiddling around on the ptr. I'm not mad or angry or anything, I'm am just very curious as to what caused this little scare and why?

EDIT: also none of my items or money so far on my main character (one i'm posting on) has been lost.

Because while you may not have - your account HAS been doing those things, which means someone else has access.

You will want to do a full security sweep on your system, make certain your email is secure.

You may also want to look into getting an authenticator for your account. It's no substitute for good security habits, but it will help keep them out of your WoW account.
