Can't gather herbs

I just started a new character (Tremen) to do herbalism/alchemy. For some reason when i try to gather herbs, it tells me that "herbalism is required". I have already trained in herbalism and it shows up in my profession list. I have tried forgetting herbalism and re-training in it which did not fix the problem. I am trying to harvest herbs that only require 1 skill point in herbalism. The same problem also occurs with add-ons turned on and off. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you for your time.
