Is there a way to temporarily disable this feature? I don't want to remove it completely, but sometimes I would just like to log to an anonymous character so that I can have time to myself?

Unfortunately, Jestina, as the others have said you can disable the entire Real ID system but there is no anonymous option currently available.

If this is something you would like to see introduced the best thing you can do is to post in the Suggestions forum and provide your feedback. Our Developers and Community Managers will be able to review your post there.
