Problem Removing Guild Ranks

I have 10 ranks in my guild, and the bottom 4 are completely unused.... When I go to remove the lowest, I get an error message stating "That guild rank is currently in use" There are no members in that rank at present....
I have reset the UI, used different computers, I have waited for the tuesday maintenance window with the vacant rank, i have re-installed the game, i have transfered the Guild Leader Position to another character on another account... I have nothing else I can try, and the GM's on my server dont seem to have any other ideas at the moment... I have opened 4-5 maybe even 6 tickets now, and over the past 7 months nobody has been able to get this resolved...

I know i am forgetting steps that I have taken, regardless of how stupid they may be, I am open to suggestions now.... as long as you dont say it isnt possible to delete a guild rank, i will try anything.... I know it is possible, i have done it before in another guild on another server...

Please let me know what you think.

Oldmanwinter, can you try renaming the ranks that you wish to delete, something other than Rank 9, Rank 8, etc.... After you rename it, try and delete them again.

Ok. I'm going to try a few things so please stay off the character until I return. :)

Well I'm stumped, I have forwarded the issue to someone who may be able to do a bit more. I'll let you know what they find.

Q u o t e:
heheh I could /gdisband but I dont really want to do that... I think this is an issue we should be able to get figured out without going to that extent....

I hesitate to go to that extreme.

Oldmanwinter, could you tell me if you are the original guild leader for the guild? If someone held the position before you do you know if the name might have undergone a name change?

Ok, I believe we have found the issue. It is likely that an addon the guild may have used has caused this, there are a few out there, like this one, that can cause a problem with some guild abilities.

The fix for this is simple but a bit annoying.

Every member of your guild needs to reset their User Interface and keep it that way until you are able to delete the ranks. It is that or live with 2 inactive ranks.

1) Log out of World of Warcraft to your desktop, thereby exiting the game completely.
2) Navigate to the World of Warcraft folder, which is often found in the Program Files directory (the default path is C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft).
3) Either rename (or delete) the WTF, Cache and Interface folders. (Note: If you do not wish to permanently lose any third-party addons you may have accrued, or macros you've written for your characters, you would be well-advised to merely rename the folders, rather than delete them entirely.)
4) Log back into the game by double-clicking WoW.exe, ensuring that you do not reinstall any addons before doing so.
