Enough of Trade Chat (and other stuff)

Ultimately WoW is about text.

What that statement means is what I believe to be the majority of people I would bother to interact with in any way realize there is:

A) An actual living and breathing human being on the other end of that conversation
B) Since the communication in game is text it DOES make a difference if you can communicate. /trade LFG

So when you spout off in trade with

[1. Trade] or i just dont care about spelling

or

[1. Trade] i dont need to worry about spelling. ur a fail reroll ur toon

means since your primary source of communication is text based you look like an idiot.

C) If it's not something you would reasonably say to someone face to face then it's probably NOT something you want to type. In a random group after seeing the tank do one pull it might not be best to type

[Party] <removed> tank ur bad do (thunderclap/swipe/d & d/whatever ability they are convinced is going to allow them to AoE .1 seconds before the pull and not get aggro)

(interestingly these are the same people that whine about there not being tanks for randoms)

D) While <removed> might be a clever name in some trailer park somewhere it's probaby going to at least annoy someone who's got functional intelligence. Blizzard I'm not sure why you decided to completely run and hide from actually enforcing your ToS in particular for names but as a head's up the following names are most certainly against the ToS

<removed> - don't think this needs an explanation
<removed> - <we don't need the description, thanks>
<removed> would be about the same or how about <removed> or <removed> or <removed>

I don't think I dreamed this but at one point extended characters were against the rules right? But now it's reasonable for me to have to either click like a 3 year old who can't type or type 4 keystrokes for each "letter" in a name that's composed of virutally all extended characters. Any guesses as to how much I communicate or tolerate extended characters? I know I don't have many of them in my guild because I refuse to tag them (some other officers have tagged some alts but no mains).

E) Manners and courtesy are GOOD. They are the lubricant of society and in fact WoW, or any MMO/Community, is a society of sorts. The lack of any accountability is horribly impacting the game. Things you wouldn't dream of saying to a stranger in person shouldn't be typed to someone you don't know. If only there was a way to go back to the old west where if you acted like a jerk just because you could might get someone pulling out a gun and shooting you. I'm not suggesting violence but the complete anonymity and lack of accountability brings out the worst in people. Without some consequence there's not going to be any changes and I for one may well stop playing because I'm tired of spending my game time in a locker room filled with teenage posers and illiterates.

I, for one, would pay a premium for a server that actually enforced the ToS in public channels and names etc. Easily double what I pay now. Trade chat is atrocious and needs to be addressed.

Posting the contents of any 10 minutes of trade chat on these forums would get the post moderated quickly but it's reasonable to expect players to listen to <removed> and <removed> type malformed sentences filled with profanity and racism and see there's just no consequence.

Posts have been edited to remove the inappropriate names and whatnot.

Q u o t e:
Trade chat is out of control. I'm confident a relatively random 5 minutes of trade would get me rapidly banned from the forums or moderated in some fashion.

And you are probably right about this, so please do not test this theory.

With that said, please continue to report names that violate the Naming Policy. Each report is reviewed and action is taken if the name is found to be in violation. While we would love to have a Game Master following around each and every player making sure they are dotting their I’s and crossing their T’s that is simply not possible.
