How can i find what realm a friend is on just by using their battle.net email address?

There is no search feature to look up by e-mail, Dithrigora.

As Merdrah mentioned, you are able to add your friend using Real ID. As long as they accept your request to be added as a Real ID friend, you should be able to see what you are looking for.
