Question about Directv pet reward

We are already a Directv customer and planning on ordering the Blizzcon PPV when it's available to order on October 9th.

My question is how is the in-game pet being awarded? I want to make sure my wife will be able to get the pet. We got hosed on the collector edition SC2 being tied to the game key and not a separate key, my wife has no plans of ever playing SC2.

Please advise, if this is going to be tied to the bnet login during signup then we'll have to use hers but I'd really rather use mine when buying the event.

DTV sends you a card with a code on it roughly 8 weeks after blizzcon. You can redeem the code on any battle.net account you want.
