I wish to voice a legitamate complaint, backed with logic, to make my point. That being said:

I'm really dissappointed right now.

Like millions of others, I love this game. It's one heck of tension release...it's ever changing and dang near limitless in its offerings. You are afforded a pretty unique opportunity to meet like minded folks from all over the world and have a great time playing the game with them. It's thought provoking...In just MY experience, working out a usefull Feral Druid (Cat) rotation that will work with each, unique, Boss or situation is awesome.

In other words, I'm a fan.

That doesn't mean, however, that I think all aspects of the game are 'tuned' or balanced fairly.

Take my arguement for example, but before you get the meat of the issue, consider the facts:

Every single player who signs up and pays their $15 a month (or so) to play this game MUST participate in PvE to do anything in this game. From questing, to 5 man dungeons, to Raids....You play WoW? You PvE, period.

However, no one MUST PvP. Battlegrounds, Areana, or playing on a PvP server is a choice. A subscriber can play this game, advance, get gear, rewards, achievements, the lot without ever ONCE PvP'ing....Sure, you won't get the PvP achievements/rewards, but again, that is your CHOICE....

This really makes sense, and seems to be the way Blizzard itself sees it, since they call PvE servers, "Normal".

Except for one, nagging, and probably heavily posted about situation:

The, "What a long, strange trip", achievement and the Violet-Proto Drake that comes with it.

See, about 20 minutes ago I got the "Brewmaster" achievement, and in a fair and balanced game, I would have also achieved "What a long, strange trip" and gotten that sweet ride.

Needless to say, I didn't.

Why? Because of the REQUIRED PvP elements for the meta encased in the Children's Week "Patron/Matron" achievement...Specifically, "School of Hard Knocks".

To me and my way of thinking, this is blantantly unfair and exclusionary.

And, before ANYONE says or wants to post it:

I began my WoW life on the Gul'Dan server (it's PvP)....I level'd to 80 on it. I've TRIED PvP and didn't enjoy it. If you doubt me, go scope my achievements page. You'll see I"m heavy in Exploration, Professions, General (Pets!!), and starting to work on the Dungeon/Raid stuff. PvP achievements? Not so much. It isn't my cup of tea...Nothing wrong with it, it just isn't what I find fun.

My happiest discovery in WoW was when friends convinced me to move to Stormrage and facton change so we could Raid/Quest together.....When I found PvE, I found MY game.

It's just frustrating and sad that I don't get to enjoy dinging a long, HARD achievement to go after, all because I choose NOT to participate in an optional portion of this game.

<Steps down from soapbox>

Thank you for reading.

Q u o t e:
It's because I don't PvP, which is an optional choice in this game, that I can't get the achievement and Drake.

Achievements, Yrret, are also optional as well.

PvP is part of this game, the strife between the Alliance and the Horde are integral to the lore of the game. Now much of this is outlined in the Player vs Environment aspect of the game, in quests and story, but that does not omit the possibility of PvP, it only makes it more of an option and not a requirement.

Even on a PvE realm PvP is possible, there are areas of the game that players choose to go to for such purposes. There are even activities in game that will automatically flag you for PvP while you are participating in them.

Yes, PvP is mostly optional, but it is also part of the whole.

I'm sorry, Yrret, but this is not a Customer Service issue as we are not Developers or programmers. You'll want to post in the Suggestion forum with your feedback.

Please note that though our Developers appreciate all our players feedback they are simply not able to implement all desired changes. This game is and will likely remain a PvE and a PvP game. Depending on what you wish to do within game you may be required to venture into one aspect or another. You almost always have the option of not doing so but you also will not receive the rewards from doing so. That is how it is intended to be.

All fine and well.

But, even you can't (I hope) argue...

To play World of Warcraft, you must PvE.

You, however, don't HAVE to PvP.

That was my entire point and probably was mistaken in posting a 'wall of text' in, still confused on that part but it's moot, the wrong place.

I'm not entirely certain where you are getting the impression that you have to complete those or any other achievement, Yrret. That is the point.

The achievement you are having an issue with is entirely optional, as in, you do not have to do it. You will not receive the listed reward if you do not, but it is not a requirement for game play or character advancement for you to do so.
