Ninja'd loot and a GM response

I have been tanking for a couple weeks now, trying to get my gear up to par. I know Cataclysm is coming out and will render our current gear useless, but I don't care. I'm still enjoying gearing and tanking.

For the last two weeks, the one dungeon I've had my eye on is H PoS for Rimefang's 1h. Last night, it finally drops and there are two Deathknight DPS in the group from Trollbane. I mention that I really need that 1h and one of the DKs responds 'I bet you hope I don't click need then.' After he says this, it drops, and he and his friend both click need on it and leave before I can try to reason with them. This keeps happening to me. Every time a tank item drops, a ret paladin, unholy/blood DK or fury/arms warrior rolls need on it. I was in that dungeon as a tank and I shouldn't have to fight over the DPS for tank gear. If someone wants tank gear, they need to queue as a tank and not a DPS with the intention of fighting the tank for the gear.

I opened a GM ticket explaining the best I could with what limited amount of characters the ticket allows. Today, I get on and I have a ticket response stating the basic 'Thank you for reporting this issue, we'll investigate but cannot disclose yadda yadda.'

Does this mean I may get my Rimefang or is this just protocol that will go no further than that response?

Normally I would let this sh*t go but it has continued to happen and it's making it really difficult to enjoy the game and gear up.

I provided a a response to a very similar situation earlier today over here, Fortera:

Some of the highlights:

Q u o t e:
As for the current Need for Greed system, which appears to be the one you are experiencing issues with, we have fairly recently taken steps to narrow the access to certain items among classes. You may only select 'Need' for items that your class can equip and use, as well as only items of the highest tier of armor type you are able to equip. As an example, Druids can no longer roll on cloth, while Warriors can no longer roll on leather. This system isn't perfect - I'm not sure a perfect loot system that everyone will agree on will ever truly exist. But if you feel that there are ways it could be made better, or have thoughts on how to improve it, then please let our developers know in the Suggestion Forums.

On a somewhat related note, if you ever feel you have truly been the victim of a scam, where a player has intentionally deceived you in order to benefit themselves, our Game Master department would be quite happy to investigate. Please understand, however, that we are not always able to provide reimbursements after such investigations, though we may apply appropriate penalties or reclaim ill-gotten goods.
