Toon was punished? Legal Issue?

I've been a WoW addict for quite a few years now and during that time I have had to open a ticket or two about another players behavior. Whenever you do this you get a response back letting you know your message was received and that's a good thing for sure. You want to know someone has read your issue and is looking into it.

After reporting enough issues and attempting to make the server a more community orientated place you start dreading the response quoted below from one of my tickets...

Due to privacy reasons, we will not be able to send you a followup report of our findings.

My question is this, what privacy issue are we being a part of? I'm reporting “an in game character” for some kind of antisocial behavior. I'm not asking for the person behind the toons, name, sex, age, phone, address, country or anything else that could be used to find them in the real world. I simply want to know that something was done about their abuse of Blizzards property and their lack of ability to follow the rules. What exactly is being protected? Is there a real legal issue stopping me from knowing a factitious character got a 4 hour ban or actually had to change their name.

This confuses me.

We will not provide details concerning actions taken on another account, Moonlighter, as it does violate the other player’s privacy.

Along these same lines, this is the same reason why we do not tell the player who was reported who reported them. We do not share this information as harassment can ensue. The harassment can begin on the person who does the reporting end or the person who was reported end. Either way, this is not a can of worms that needs to be opened.

We do follow up with each report of behavior, spam, naming violations, etc and take the appropriate action in each case. Continue to report any in game actions that are in violation of our rules and it will be investigated accordingly.
