Abuse in WoW

You know, as I sat waiting for my DPS que to pop I was watching trade and after my headache started to subside I got to thinking, there is so much abuse in the game it's sick, really you don't know who is at the other end of that toon it could be someones child! I was guilty of this ONCE just ONCE when I started flaming this paladin for not using correctly leveled spells and it turns out it was this guys 9 year old daughter and I had her in tears, I felt like crap! That was my reality check, it's easier to be nice and help someone not risking their feelings being hurt or it being a child.

I know people are going to say "That's what ignore is for" and "Turn trade off if you don't like the stupid stuff being said" and "Mature filter" but let me ask you this, say someone flames a child sure they can put the person on ignore but the damage is already done isn't it? Also why should anyone have to leave a channel and risk losing out on good deals because people have to act like morons rather than be mature? As for the mature language filter, it does not filter out the stupid anal jokes or things of the such.

Really do people think they are cool because they stole some lame jokes from someones machinama video MAKING FUN OF THE SAME TYPE OF PEOPLE?!?!?!

As this thread is rife with misinformation and some flagrantly incorrect generalities, please allow me a moment to shed as much light as I am able to on the issue at hand.

While we are unable to provide 24/7 monitoring of Trade or other channels at all times (this is not currently feasible), we do have teams that are working to improve the quality of the game, and of our community. This isn't just on Moon Guard, either. Unfortunately, I am unable to provide more details on the situation, but to put it simply: we know there's an issue, and we are doing our best to address it, one step at a time.

However, it would help us tremendously if players would continue to put in these reports. These reports are not useless, nor have they ever been useless. Each ticket is read and addressed by a live Blizzard representative. We do not use automation when addressing issues. At times, it may be necessary to send similar replies to similar issues, to allow us to address a greater volume of them, but that does not impact the investigation of any given petition.

It seems like part of the greater fight as of late is convincing people to submit petitions. As I do see every so often, there are very vocal minorities out there that seem to be convincing everyone that placing a petition does nothing. Please understand that simply isn't true. There are many factors in why you may see a repeat offender:

    1) They have not yet been reported, so there is no record of their behavior, and as such, they start at the bottom of the penalty volcano.
    2) This is one of the first times they have misbehaved, so they have received a warning or a shorter term suspension earlier on.
    3) They were suspended, but the duration that suspension is up and they have not taken the lesson to heart and continue their ill behavior.
    4) Those who see examples 1-3 are convinced nothing happens to these offenders, which is often re-enforced by the offender saying nothing happened, and no further petitions are placed.

We need the help of players like all of you to ensure none of this is happening. While we are working on other ways to improve your game play experience, it would be greatly appreciated if the community continued to help us help them.

If you have questions regarding the Penalty Volcano and how penalties are addressed on an account, you'll want to check out our Account Penalty overview.
