Avast! Issue - Log In Servers Down???

Is anyone else having probelms getting through the log in servers? I type in account, PW and auth code, then I get the message "cannot connect" (or something like that). I've followed the information on the tech forums and none of it has solved the problem.

I've tried on another computer, and get the same results, yet I can connect to the internet (and thus, here) with no problem.

Please advise and thank you in advance!

Are either of you running the anti-virus program called Avast by chance?

**Edited with simpler and more protective instructions added**

If you are using Avast!:

    1) Right-click the Avast! icon located in the system tray. If you cannot see the icon, expand the system tray.

    2) Select “Avast Shields Control”

    3) Choose “Disable for 10 minutes”

    4) Once disabled log into the game.

    5) Immediately upon logging into the game, go back to the system tray and re-enable protection.

*************** You will have to continue to do the above steps until Avast! fixes the issue. ***************

This method is slightly more advanced and could potentially prohibit Avast! from detecting a malicious program associated with World of Warcraft.

    1) Open the user interface

    2) Go to Real-Time Shields (Tab on left side)

    3) Go to Expert Settings

    4) Go to Exclusions

    5) At the bottom of the list, there will be an empty box to type in. Type *.auth and then hit Enter.

    6) Make sure all 3 checkboxes are marked.

    7) Click OK, and exit.

Okay tried, it worked and let me back in...however...after I turned them back on. I played for a bit, logged off, and now it's happening again. Is this something all of us Avast! members are going to have to do EVERYTIME we log into WoW?

Perhaps you missed this:

Nevermind, after rereading the post it does seem like it's rinse and repeat until Avast! pulls the WoW stick out of it's butt. That being said, is there someone or someplace we can contact Avast! about this?

I would try visiting the Avast Forums. It looks as though there is a thread already in progress there under the title: Avast Free Blocking World of Warcraft.

i have a question of what is a system tray, i am not very computer savy

The system tray is the little area next to where your clock display is, that shows the icons of what programs you are currently running. There is normally an arrow next to it that will expand the system tray to show all programs currently running, as it usually minimizes to save space. >^.^<

Per the Avast forums, Auranara, there was an update that went out earlier this morning that caused this issue. There should now be an update available designed to fix it.

Lovedrunk, if this does not concern the Avast problems in particular, it may be best to create your own thread over in Technical Support. <3 They would best be able to assist with this issue.

What error are you receiving, Lovedrunk? I am not a specialist on technical issues, but it would help me to know which direction to go in if you could provide that information.

I just found your other post, Lovedrunk. It looks like it was originally posted here, and Harlsoco responded to it. Looks like others sort of hijacked your thread regarding the Avast issue. =\ Sorry about that - this *is* something you will need to contact Technical Support regarding, if you are freezing on the "Logging in" message. I am not able to provide you with the necessary troubleshooting steps to identify the issue, only Technical Support can do so.
