I recently had my game account hacked, and went through the account restored progress, once my account was "restored" i logged into my main to find all my gear Gone! i submit a ticket and the gm says i cant get my gear restored beacuse they have no record of my main's gear b4 the hack....BUT yet they had a record of every other toon i have... this sounds like an issue on blizzards end, and i should at least be able to get a stack of badges to compensate... but no... i guess that the badges are more important than my 15 bux a month sub... i have watched many many of my friends in game get hacked and they get everything back, and in one case they recieved more that what they had in the 1st place....

They did one thing for me and that was to send me 800g to help me get started.... well im sorry i was in tier 9 when i left the game...how they hell is 800g gonna replace all that...

Good luck blizzard with this kind of customer service, your game will slowly die, and i really hope it does, i have been a subscriber for 3+ years... and this is no way to treat a player who had been loyal to your service for all that time... i bid thee farewell, my money will goto other games, where the community matters to them, not just thier money.....

oh and to really make things more worse, once i ofund out my account was hacked, i did scans on my pc for 2 days, scanning with more that just one piece of software... and nothing was found, all i can think of is this was around the time i started using the facebook wow app, this could have been the only way they could have got my info... so my account was hacked out of no fault of my own...

i refuse to keep playing a game that can be hacked at anytime, through no fault of my own...

Im not trying to rant, and you all can go ahead and flame away, beacuse once i hit submit ill never be coming back to see if i recieved any replies, i just hope that this letter opens the eyes of other players and makes them think how they would feel if this happend to them... good luck, Farewell Azeroth... for good this time!

Well, I am always saddened to see a player decide to leave, but I'm afraid I cannot leave some of your assertions unchallenged, Sangwynn, as they aren't correct or patently false.

Q u o t e:

Actually, this account was compromised and used to do some heinous things back in May. If it were recent - or promptly reported, the outcome would likely have been more satisfactory.

Indeed we did take the time to try to get your account back into the best shape we possibly could, even trying to give you a bit to get you on your feet since there were no records. The reason some characters could be done was because they were deleted more or less intact. The ones that were stripped, well, those records are no longer available.

And we are terribly sorry that there is no longer a record of that after so much time has passed. We realize what you were sent may not replace what you had, but it should help to get your characters playable again - that is what it is intended to do.

If this were true, Sangwynn, it would have been far less time consuming to deny this out of hand as simply too old.

Compromises aren't always due to malware, although that is a very common cause. Let me ask you, before you left in May, you did a Refer A Friend - that was a malicious party. You may not have known that at the time - but did they send you to any websites? I strongly suspect that was the same person that then compromised your account directly afterward. This would not have been through any of our applications.

That is of course, your prerogative, however - see my statement above. This was NOT through our app and there are many ways these thieves trick people out of their account information. That's why we go to such lengths to educate our players as well as making authenticators available as an extra layer of protection.

Indeed, I hope it does open eyes. Account security is VERY important. Many players don't realize how important until they see something like this happen to them.

Don't fall for RAF schemes. Those are intended to be used to get people you really know playing with you in Azeroth, not to be manipulated for free time or mounts to strangers that can have significant repercussions to your own account.

Lastly, there is a spot when you cancel an account for your reasons, unfortunately, this is not that box and if you wish these viewpoints known that would be the appropriate place for your comments.
