RealID

I'm not really feeling that the RealID FAQ has answered my questions.

1. Can I turn off the "Friends of Friends" feature? This still seems like a huge privacy loophole. It seems even more odd that it would be activated by default, and that you would need to (presumably) go into Parental Controls and activate Parental Controls just to turn it off. I haven't done this so that is why I ask.

2. Why can't I use a handle to identify myself to my friends? There are a handful of people who I don't mind that they know where I am online at any given moment and what toon I am on in WoW or any other game. We know each other by handles, they know my first name, but having my entire name appear seems a bit superfluous. What happened to RP?

I guess I am curious as to how many people are actually using RealID because it seems there are still some major privacy concerns. It still seems like it's designed just for Blizzard employees to play with each other, and there are no considerations for players outside of that network of people. I want to use some of the features but don't like a lot of the mandatory stuff.

It is an option that our Developers hope to implement as soon as they can but it is not yet released.

Because that is how the system was designed. If you are not comfortable sharing the information with them they would not be good candidates for using Real ID with.

I'm not entirely certain what that question means. You aren't forced to use the Real ID channel when speaking with people. You can use the channels that you normally have access to. Truthfully, if you were truly to RP then you should only be speaking in /Say and /Yell.

Real ID was intended to be used with friends that you know in real life, Beachcomber. It is an opinional system that is by no means a requirement to use.

I'm not certain how that makes sense. Technically I do have a couple of people in my Real ID friends list that I also work with but the majority of my Real ID friends are friends I know outside of work. I'm not even certain what your sentence means.

If you wish to see changes to how this optional feature works you are welcome to post in our Suggestion forum. Our Developers can review your feedback there.
