Recruit A friend issue

Hello, I recently invited one of my friends to do the recruit A friend bonus, and when he made the account he just made a regular trial account without using the specific code in the email to activate the account link. so he plays and gets to lvl 20 and upgrades his account, and then put in the trial code. instead of adding it to his current account that he just payed for to upgrade, it created a new account that is only a trial and doesnt have the character he just lvld. How does this get fixed so he can play on his lvl 20 with the recruit a friend bonus?
