Password Issues?

Hello there!

Well, I just had an odd issue concerning my password and would like to ask for some clarification on what happened, if possible.

I tried logging into my account in-game and on us.battle.net a few minutes ago, and the system kept rejecting my info. At first, I thought that my iphone authenticator had gone out of sync, but after 3 different syncs, the problem persisted.

I ended up using the password reset form, even if I most certainly did NOT forget my password or mistype it that many times. Anyway, the password reset email came to my inbox, and I was able to "reset" it back to ..the same password I've been using all along but the system kept rejecting. After the reset, I can again log into the game and the websites fine (hence posting).

However, I am still baffled on how did that happen? I did not change my password, nor did I receive any notification of it changing, nor does my account show ANY kind of compromise. Chances that I was compromised are low anyway, since I use an Authenticator, a Mac, and I run adblock/noscript on firefox. Could I contact someone at account management to see when/if my password got changed without me knowing?

Hi Regnatia,

Based on what I can see, there was a password reset requested and completed via the password recovery feature. In this case, sensitive information like your f/l name, e-mail and answer to your secret question was somehow obtained. In this case, someone has access to your e-mail account.

It sounds like you have taken some preventative steps to avoid getting compromise. I'd recommend you secure your e-mail, if possible changing the e-mail would be best. Have you logged in to your account using any other computer?

Regnatia,

The password change was not the same one you requested. I can see both attempts. Luckily, with your authenticator on the account, it doesn't look like there was any in game activity.

Unfortunately, we aren't able to see passwords at all. Although the risk of a virus on a Mac is lower, it is still possible. Make sure you also scan your computer.
