New Computer, file transfer!

In a few days I will FINALLY be getting my new system. It is coming pre-installed with WOLK, but I really want to avoid dloading all the patches to date. Including this monster 1.58gb part1 for the newest patch.
Everyone tells me to avoid this and have my new system up and playing completely updated as quick as possible I will need to connect my new hard drive and one I am on now to my router and create a network. doing so I will be able to share my fully installed and patched game from old system to new, and be ready to play as soon as the transfer is complete.

I have NEVER done or for that matter had to do this for any reason before. So I have a question or two, so I don't make a critical error.

The WOW folder on my old system is located on my desktop. and contains the following folders & files:

Cache
Data
Errors
Interface
Logs
Screenshots
Updates
WTF
BackgroundDownloader
Blizzard Updater
Launcher

So do ALL of the above need to be copied and transfer to the new system for it to be ready to play?
Are there some of them that can be left out WITHOUT causing a problem?

And will this even work?

I have a very restrictive daily download restriction, or I would just install the pre-installed game and dload all the patches fresh. If at all possible I need to try and avoid that, or it will take me well over a week to even be able to play with the size of some of theses patches.

TIA!!!

Hi Âlthea,

Assuming the game is fully patched and working on the first computer, copying over the entire wow folder will work. If you are transferring the files over a network, make sure you are connected with a wire and not wireless. As Nala mentioned, using a flash drive would be faster.

Since all the patches have already been applied at this point, the patch downloader's and patch files can be left behind.

I would recommend you make a new folder and temporarily move all the files above. All other files and folders are required.

Let us know if you have any additional questions.

Q u o t e:
Will doing it this way, stop me from having to dload any previous patches also? I am guessing yes since they are the only ones on my old system, meaning all the current patches and other required for playing dloaded content is included within. But sorry I must ask just to make sure.

Always better safe then sorry!
Correct! The 'Data' folder should end up with the following files and folders:

Folder: enUS
File: common.MPQ
File: common-2.MPQ
File: expansion.MPQ
File: lichking.MPQ
File: patch.MPQ
File: patch-2.MPQ
File: patch-3.MPQ

If your new system is running Windows Vista or Windows 7 you will want to make sure you use the 'Run as administrator' mode when opening Launcher.exe.

Run as administrator
- Right click Launcher.exe
- Click on 'Run as administrator'

Again, let us know if you have any additional questions.
