Random emails

My computer broke about a week ago, and I had noticed that I had gotten an email about my password being reset or something. Does blizzard usually automatically reset your password, if you haven't logged onto the account in awhile? I had contacted support, and they sent me to GM support, and it looks like they restored a whole bunch of items. If they restore the items, not that I asked them to or not, because I don't have access to WoW ATM, would they have gave the items a restore only if they saw different ips on account or that a bunch of items were taken / missing on a same day basis?

I just don't understand how this could happen considering I keep everything up to date, and don't share my information with anyone. Please help...

I looked into the situation, Damattaii, and here's the order of the events, as they happened.

We received a report that there was a lot of spam messages coming from your account. We suspended it, and then sent you a password reset. We then received an e-mail inquiry at our billing@blizzard.com address regarding this password reset from your registered e-mail account. I am presuming this was from you.

The billing representative that received your e-mail forwarded a ticket to our Game Master department to have your account investigated for potential compromise. Our Game Masters found reason to believe there was a compromise, and restored any items that appear to have been lost in the time the account was being used maliciously.

Compromise can come from a variety of different places, such as phishing e-mails, malicious software, or web vulnerabilities. I highly recommend reviewing the following information hubs regarding account compromise and I do hope that you find the source as to avoid a similar situation in the future. Best of luck to you!

That's likely the e-mail that you didn't receive which specified your account was suspended. It's difficult for me to tell, as I can't exactly see in your mailbox. =)

If you feel that an e-mail is suspicious in any nature, you are welcome to forward it to our teams at hacks@blizzard.com. If you are unsure of the validity of an e-mail, here's a few ways you can tell whether or not it was sent legitimately.

I'm afraid I'm unable to lock the account for you - it's not a service I am able to provide as a Customer Service Forum Representative. Your password has been reset for you, however, and I believe that if you take the measures that I've outlined above, your account will be in a much safer place.

Unlikely, Damattaii, if all they required was your character name. The only thing I could think of was if you signed up for it yourself and used the same e-mail and password as your battle.net account or e-mail address to register the account. It does not sound like that was the case, though.

He could have had his "website" set up to install a keylogger onto your system.

That is a possibility. I'm afraid without running scans and the like, it's not something you could really pinpoint, and I don't have the resources to be able to narrow down the possibility for you. =(
