Hello,

I recently received a whisper from someone named <removed> who said the following:

hello! Blizzard World of Warcraft game found in violation of your game account. Please visit our website <removed> and enter your information, pending review, or we will permanently disable your game account.

While I am almost certain that this was a fraud I went to the site just to see what it looked like and sure enough there is an official-looking website out there trying to trick people into entering their information. I have plenty of virus and spyware/adware protection so I think I'm safe as far as that's concerned, however I just thought I would bring it to the attention of those who could potentially do something about it.

Thanks,
<removed> (Eladreimir, Mallachaii)

Yes, Eladreimir, the whisper you received was not from a Blizzard employee.

Please visit our website <removed> and enter your information, pending review, or we will permanently disable your game account.
If the account violated our rules in any way, we would disable the account then send you an email telling you we did and why.

Since you did visit the website I still would take the time to scan your computer since you may have acquired a keylogger or virus.

In the future if you receive a whisper like this again, right-click on their name and select “Report as Spam”. If a Blizzard employee would like to speak to you, the whisper will be very distinctive. You can see what it would look like here:

I received an in-game whisper from someone claiming to be a GM. How do I know if it's a scam?
