What disturbs me about WoW development

Let me clear this up before i tirade: Im not a hater, spammer, troll or fanboi. Im just a player.

I was in Orgrimmar the other day, and noticed a strange sight; There were about 30 level 1 orcs flying through the air and spelling out advertisements for gold seller sites. That was not the strange sight however. What struck me as odd was that everyone was ignoring it! turns out it is such a common occurrence, that its considered a normal everyday event, so no one cares.

Later that day I get a spam tell from [Blizzoard] telling me they want to give me a celestial steed if I got to some website. They conviently left out the part where they will also steal my account info and %%*@ my characters. The odd thing in that is the character does not exist! Never did, never will. Not online and not int he armory....

This leads me to believe there is some seriously shoddy work going on in the servers. Why would they code a server to pass information along that is hacked? I mean these idiots are using some sort of tool to tell the servers their characters are floating inthe air and holding position, however the wow servers are not catching this erronous information and passing it right along to 1000 players in the area. Oh sure, the trial accounts get banned pretty quickly, but what is the issue with just fixing the server not to pass along hacked packets? Just that fix alone might actually lower the ping rate and traffic....

also before a tell is transmitted, or any other yell, say, or emote, why does the server not check to see if it is a legitimate character? These ghost tells are from direct stream hacking, there is not even a player online, just some moron manipulating the packets going to the server, which blindly (and happily) is ready to re-transmit the spam to you.

I would like these things fixed, they annoy me.

Unfortunately this behavior has become fairly common of late, I doubt no one cares though. Some believe nothing will be done and others believe that it will be taken care of in due time.

I provided a response to this issue in another thread recently which you can check out here: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=26726062824&sid=1

Well, that isn't entirely true. Many of these advertisements are sent by temporary characters. Characters that are created, used to spam to multiple players then quickly logged out and deleted. The Armory won't pick them up because they are below level 10, and they come back as unknown because they are deleted.

If possible, use the Report Spam feature to report this type of whisper, this will not only ignore the account but also send a report for review.

Your perception is incorrect, Hrimthur, these advertisements are possible because of exploitation of normal in-game mechanics, it isn't "hacking" in the strictest sense. As I state in the post I linked our Developers are working on preventative measures but this takes time. The goal is to stop these actions without negatively impacting normal players.
