Sorry if it has been asked before or common knowledge, but will it be possible to buy a cataclysm key to upgrade an existing account online using the account management system?

Both me and my wife play and I was wondering if it’s absolutely necessary to buy a second retail copy of Cataclysm just for the serial number.

We will more than likely offer the ability to upgrade accounts to Cataclysm online after the game is released, Nexdominus, although I do not foresee this being the day of release. Basing it off of what we have offered in the past, the online upgrade feature may not be available for a few days or weeks after release, although this has yet to be determined for Cataclysm.

If you and your wife want to play Cataclysm when it initially launches, you may wish to get retail copies of the game rather than waiting on the online upgrade to become available.

Yes, you will usually find the announcement on the main page of the World of Warcraft website
