Account Lost?

Recently I checked my email that I hardly ever use, and is in no way associated with WoW. Looking through my emails I saw I've been getting mail from Blizz, telling me about "my account" that I never made.

Yesterday I got an email telling me that Blizz is sorry for my account being lost, and they will compensate me 10,000 gold and a celestial steed once I get it back up running (I have no idea who this was from, for it didn't say). I'm assuming its someone trying to hack this account that I never made.

I'm still curious as to how I have an account linked to this email, and wondered if anyone had any comments on this?

You will want to forward any suspicious e-mails you receive to [email protected], Adellwins. If possible, we appreciate if you can include the full headers for review. =)

As for why you might have received such a message on a non-World of Warcraft linked e-mail address, phishers will tend to send mail out to any e-mail address they can. Where they obtain their addresses from, I couldn't say for certain, but I imagine it's similar to any other kind of spam e-mail you are familiar with.

Phishers tend to cast their lines blindly, because when they have thousands of them out there, getting a bite is all that more likely.

You may want to review the following information for additional tips on identifying Phishing scams and some examples of suspicious e-mails. =)
