I have blizzard take money out of my account on a re-occurring basis. In 3 and a half years I have never seen this message. I checked my account on Battlenet and it says: Active (Renews: 10/06/2010 07:46 PM) . So what gives ?

You are correct, the time on the account expires in October.This is a known issue that we are actively investigating. As a short term workaround, you may try logging out and back in.
