Faction Changes and name Locks

Good afternoon Blizzard CS reps.

I have but a simple request/question.

Some time ago I decided to faction change back to the horde to play with friends again but have since become bored. I wish to faction change back to alliance but I want my name to be the same as it was when I was alliance. I am aware that when you faction change and change your name that the name you used prior is locked for 90 days.

I contacted an ingame GM to see if it could be unlocked for my use. They said they could not but to go to the suggestion forums.

After reading the response from the GM I wondered if he actually knew what my request was and if there was any way around it.

What I wanted was to have the name I had before unlocked early so I could faction change and select that name now instead of in a few weeks. If this is possible I'd like to know.

I'd also like to know if the name is just locked from new character creation or locked all together. For instance, if I make a new character and try to use that name it says its unavailable but if I faction change the same character for whom the name did belong I am able to rename it with the same name.

I would appreciate any feedback.

I'm glad to hear things worked out for you, Bamph.

I did want to clear this up with you, however. The reason you were sent to the Suggestion forums is because Game Masters have no control over this name lockout - it is locked out to everyone, not just players.

Transferring the exact character back, however, usually overrides this function, while trying to create a new character with that name, even on your account, won't. It's possible that particular Game Master was not familiar with that feature, but that is the primary function of that lockout.
