Cd key upgrading issues

I just bought a new copy of classic, bc, and wotlk. I was unable to post on my new account here because I do not have any characters on the account, but when I try to enter in my bc cd key I get an error. I bought the cd keys on ebay ( this is allowed right? ) Did I get ripped off, or am I doing something wrong, or is the system malfunctioning? I contacted the merchant and he said:
"i have asked my friends they said they couldnt add keys atm"
"all the keys are same ,u could ask ur friends,they also cant add keys now there is a promlem on the website not keys promlem i can promise u u can add it later my friend even cant add Â vanilla that bought from blizza if u buy it from blizza Â it will show the same thing"

I am somewhat inclined to believe him because he has 235 positive feedback ratings. (100% positive) Please help me figure out whats going on / what to do.

I'd call Billing, they'll be able to tell you quickly enough if that key has ever been used.

If it has - it's gone, they can only be used once.

You only have to wait for 72 hours if the account was upgraded with a digital purchase of the game, Geoffrett. This time frame is in place for security reasons and to allow sufficient time for the payment to process. Once the upgrade completes, you will then be able to upgrade to Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King.

The upgrade can take up to 72 hours to complete. When the upgrade completes, you will be notified via email. At that point you will know it is okay to upgrade.
