Q u o t e:
Right now i have the trial account where i downloaded the game from the site and have played for 24 hours, i have decided i want to upgrade to a full one. Since when you get the trial account you download the game to your computer, then why would someone go buy the hard copies in stores when they can download the game for free here?
While the game client can be downloaded for free, Piggotts, what you are purchasing is the authentication key(s) which unlocks the full version of the game.

Also, i only downloaded the original wow for my trial and then the needed patches. Will i run into trouble when i go to upgrade? because i'm going to want the full game with expansions or will i have to go to the store to buy them?
You can upgrade one of two ways: the Direct Online Upgrade through Battle.net Account Management or purchase the games from a retail store. The costs for each upgrade are as follows:
World of Warcraft -- $19.99USD, includes 30-days of additional game play.
The Burning Crusade -- $29.99 USD
Wrath of the Lich King -- $39.99 USD
If you decide to purchase the games retail, I would suggest purchasing the World of Warcraft Battlechest, which includes both World of Warcraft and the Burning Crusade. The typical cost for the Battlechest is $39.99 USD, which will save you $10.00 if purchased retail vs. online.
