Mini-Thor Issue

I bought the normal SC2, and activated it on my account. I found out that there is a mini-thor pet from SC2CE and wanted to get the pet. A friend of mine has SC2CE and gave me his CD-Key to get the pet. I put the CD-Key into the Item Redemption and it said the key was already used. He doesn't play wow, and never put the key in to get Mini-Thor I was wondering why I can't redeem it?

Is it because he activated his SC2CE on Battle.net that I can't get Mini-Thor? or is the key messed up?

Unfortunately, you will not be able to receive the pet unless you have the Collector's Edition attached to your Battle.net.
