Chat with a GM

This comes from several separate contacts with GMs over my first year playing WOW. I have never asked for help in reference to actual game play hints, etc. I struggled over which forum to put this in. I don't want to be rude, but I do a lot of eye rolling when I have to chat with a GM. It is infinitely frustrating when communicating an issue to a person that responds like an internet meme: there is an issue with the product/service that you support, and I am looking for a resolution, not laughs. Be transparent with me and provide realistic expectations, not general information and (even worse) direction to a third party website <that is just shameful.

As a former Game Master myself, I wanted to address a few points that have come across in this thread.

Every Game Master is very different. I have met many that prefer to role play, and others who don't at all. I have met some that only role play if they feel the situation is appropriate for it. Some Game Masters are short and to the point, as you seem to prefer, Starkaðr. Others are a bit more talkative and while they take the time to investigate your issue or push shiny buttons, choose to engage you in casual conversation in the mean time.

Different styles appeal to different people, both as the Game Master and to the individual player. It may be that you get a representative with a different style than you'd prefer - but as they don't know you personally, there's not much in the way for them to know that until after they start talking to you.

As others have mentioned, providing feedback is one of the best ways to let our staff know how to improve themselves. Either filling out the randomly generated surveys provided or sending your thoughts or concerns to [email protected] are the best ways to directly communicate this to those you have encountered. If there is anything that a Game Master loves, it's truly constructive criticism. We want nothing more than to provide you the most epic experience we can, and we greatly appreciate it when you can help us with that. =)

I wasn't able to locate the exact issue you were referring to where you were directed to a third party website, Starkaðr, but I can provide insight on why you may receive such an answer. Specifically in the cases of game hints, our in-game staff are unable to directly assist. Their knowledge is so vast that there are some things that they are not at liberty to discuss. However, we do want you to be able to get the assistance you need, and a lot our third party fansites are excellent sources for that sort of information. As we already support them in our fansite listing, it's not uncommon for our Game Masters to steer you in that direction.

If you want to check out our list of support fansites, you can see them here:
