Why does this game have PvP? Seriously, just give it up and balance the game around PvE because, that seems to be the only thing anyone does anyway. Just add guards in every city and in every instance in a 10 yard radius.

Maybe when I bought World of Warcraft I thought there would be a little bit more emphasis on the whole killing Alliance/Horde part of the game which made Warcraft such a great strategy game for the generations.

Now I see people basically spending their time killing worthless monsters and hugging each other to have any sort of care for the whole "Oh we are at war" thing that's going on in the game. Even the high-end PvP 'Arenas' you are pitted against your own brethren. Even if sometimes you do fight the opposite faction, keep in mind "IT IS JUST A FRIENDLY COMPETITION".

Thanks for butchering this game that was once full of war and opposition.

Please continue to enjoy your happy-go-lucky, friendly, and peaceful world.... where no one will harm you while you kill scripted bosses over and over and over and over again.

I really wish Blizzard could introduce a "Carebear" server. Where we get to have little carebears as pets and we're required to hug at least five people daily. And if you kill someone in world PvP, you must /kiss to make it better. Oh and priest spells should be rainbows!

You scare me. *shivers*

Well, the OP tried to make a point and in doing so exaggerated a bit. I think overall, his point is valid though. PvP is poorly implemented in this game even though the Devs try - they just dont have what it takes to incorporate the PvP that people want. It is truly a mystery to me that we even have PvP servers - you would think that these servers would have a ruleset that really encourages PvP - they are popular since people at some point picked them over PvE servers so there seems to be a desire to PvP...

Regarding the lack of good PvP - I have a fee questions...is this the case because:

a. Blizz wants to but doesnt know how
b. Blizz doesnt want to do it
c. Blizz thinks they did achieve a good PvP

My guess is that they would answer c. they think they have a decent PvP system...and they will admit that there is room for improvement. This will be nicely packaged with "well, different people want different kind of PvP." This is were the discussion dies - in a "we just have to agree to disagree."

What you're talking about in this case is all a part of a delicate balancing act. We have a very large population of what we like to think is a largely happy group. That doesn't mean though that we are sitting back and calling everything all good. We are constantly pushing to evolve the gameplay. That is pretty evident in what we have planned for Wrath of the Lich King.

In all of my years of gaming, I have never seen a consensus on what makes "good" PvP even among PvPers. Some want rewards, some don't need any, some want full PvP so they can kill anyone, some want looting rights. In the end though, it's about finding a balance somewhere in the middle so that those that don't care for PvP can still enjoy it or at least try it out, and yet, don't need to PvP if they don't wish. We're about giving people as many choices as possible and yet, encouraging them to try some other things too. We would like to think everyone is going to be engaging in both PvE and PvP to be well rounded.

Some have suggested different rulesets to go with having the separate PvP and PvE realms, but that's not possible without ultimately designing for two different games.

At some point, there is always going to be something we are going to be agreeing to disagree on.

Neth, saying there's no consensus on what makes good pvp is a cop-out. This is blind defense of Blizzard by an employee.

I hate to tell you, but it's not a cop-out when it's the truth. Even within "pure" PvP games, these sorts of debates are waged over who is and isn't "care bear" and why. When I say, "years of experience" in PvP communities, I'm not just saying it . I'm saying it so that you understand that I do have a wealth of experience I'm using to back it up with.

Also, I've known many people who said they had never wanted to PvP until they started playing World of Warcraft. As someone that has PvPed for many years, I'd be lying if I didn't say this makes me happy to hear. More people becoming a part of PvP and enjoying it is a plus for everyone. It is easily accessible and something many people can learn to do and even learn to excel at if they want to.

While some of the more "hardcore" folks may not be completely happy, it's a bit difficult to cater to that particular group without alienating many others. So, we do what we can and continue to work toward making the experience better for everyone overall.

There is one overall truth that still continues to elude all developers and that is finding that one perfect balance between PvE and PvP and I am not under the belief that one can necessarily be complete without the other. But that could just be me. ;) It won't keep us from at least trying to get to that balance however. We are less than what we could be if we don't try at all.

Have you ever even played Ultima Online?

There is a reason I don't discuss other games or my past history in detail. :) In this case you're going to have to choose to believe me or not as you wish.

Please keep your posts on topic.

PvP in this game is total trash.

I'm all for people continuing to discuss their thoughts and feelings on the topic, however, statements like the one above are not productive additions to the thread. Please provide more constructive feedback in the future.

You're right Neth and I do apologize. Although it was more of a joke than anything

How come when I write something constructive it gets no attention? Sadface!

:( Sorry. I hope it didn't come off as harsh. I just wanted to make sure everyone did stick to topic and posted beyond 'it sucks'.
