So annoyed by the scam emails now.

Sorry for beating what I'm sure is a completely dead horse by now, but I am really getting tired of getting all these phishing emails everyday. My email account is not used by a battle.net email, so unless they are tracking me through signing up for sites like wowhead, or guild sites, etc. I'm not sure how they are even sending so many to me.

Searching for 'World of Warcraft' brings that up. I've been getting 4+ mails a day for months, and while I'm smart enough to not click on any of their stupid links, I'm worried that I will have gotten so used to ignoring anything about battle.net that when I do actually get a real email from Blizzard I'm going to ignore it.

Is there anything I can do outside of changing my email address? I'd rather not since I've had it for 6 years and I use it for a lot of things outside of WoW.

Rantfully yours,

Kz

Changing your email is probably the best defense against these, but even that is no guarantee you may not be hit with a 'shot-gun' approach.

The last report I saw in the media estimated that in the high percentile of 90 something percent of all emails were scams, phishes or advertisements.

Sadly, it costs them next to nothing to send out millions of these at a time. Some are going to hit 'live' emails and some of those are going to be WoW players.

You never EVER want to respond to a phish - not even to the 'remove me from the mailing list' as that pegs that as a 'live' address and you'll get them for EVERYTHING.

Q u o t e:

Well yeah I don't bother replying because it will try to send it to you guys instead of the fake sender anyway, and I figure you all wouldn't care much for an email from me telling them to bugger off. :)

Hmm, well, I hate to have to go through changing all my accounts and things to a new email but at this point I've gotten so sick of my Blackberry beeping at me just to find out it's a scam email so many times a day, I might have to.

You'd be amazed how many of those we DO get :)

I'd much rather see that, however, as that does indicate the player realizes it's a phish.

The scary ones are the ones that obviously do NOT realize it's a phish.
