Problem granting a level

Quick question for you smart folks out there,

I'm the recruitee, level 22. My recruiter started a new character after I did, currently a level 8. We're on the same realm, we were grouped together, we were standing in front of each other. I tried to grant him some levels (it's my first time, so I should have 11 available), but the "grant a level" was grayed out. We tried it both in the city and out in the forest.

Some additional information, if it helps:
- I've already gone through the trial period, and I'm 2 months into the full account
- I have the classic only, he has the 2 expansions.
- we're both in the same faction

Is there anything that we're missing here, or are we not doing this correctly? Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm not seeing anything obvious here.

You might try resetting your UI on the off chance something is conflicting with your interface. If that doesn't seem to help, please petition ingame so we can look into this further. You do have 11 grantable levels at the moment.

To do a full reset UI, you will want to save your addons in another spot if you wish to preserve them.

Then rename/delete or move your WTF, Cache and Interface folders while WoW is shutdown. Reboot your system.

Note, if you are running Vista make sure your permissions are set so it does not undo your changes.

More detailed instructions for different operating systems, including Macs are here.
