My Account was Invaded, Frozen, then Fine...

What follows are the described events that occurred on the 8th of August 2010, between 12 and 3pm.

As I was playing WoW, I was disconnected. I tried to reconnect but my password did not work. Alarmed, I checked with friends online in WoW and saw that I was still online, as a level 1 Troll Rogue. I checked my emails and found that my password had been changed without me knowing. I went to the WoW website and followed the help guidelines, and changed my password for my WoW account and email address, while scanning my computer for malicious software. Meantime, I received a email about my account being frozen. After I changed my WoW password, I tried logging on with the new password and it worked, nothing had been taken and I deleted the Troll Rogue.

My account wasn't frozen and it seems my computer is clean now. I'm just wondering if I should expect anything else to happen.

It sounds like your account may have been compromised, Xankara, but you were able to quickly regain access. I don't see any indication that we have contacted you and there doesn't seem to be any other signs that the account was locked/frozen/closed so you likely received a phishing attempt, designed to hopefully trick you into giving up your account information.

I do see where the account password was changed by someone who was most decidedly not you and 3 minutes later you are force resetting it and reclaiming the account. Very impressive.

This most likely means that although they were able to get your password for the account they were unable to access your e-mail address so they couldn't add an Authenticator.

Please report any losses you find, Xankara, we'll take a look.

Te only real after effects that you may see is if the person was able to spam advertisements or whisper others. You caught them fairly fast though so you may be good.
