Authentocator question

I have an authenticator right now but i'm a little worried one day it's just not going to work because the battery died or it's just done with.

What kind of life can I expect out of my authenticator? I've seen people complain that there has died in as little as a week. I guess I could just have it removed and do a mobile one... that one should be good for a long time.
