Taking gold from "Strangers"

Yesterday evening, my friend had finished an onyxia run, and when he returned to town, some person gave him 10k. Now, myself, reading the forums found this strange, and I'm unsure why it wasn't to him either, but can he get banned if that gold was stolen?

If any other information to determine if that gold was stolen is necessary, please ask. :) Thanks!

If I were him, I'd petition and ask.

Strangers just don't normally stroll around handing out 10k.
